Favorite new band...

THE VACCINES-Bowery Ballroom, NYC 1/20

14 songs and 40 minutes was all it took. Actually, it was 1:35. That's how long their killer first song, 'Wreckin Ball (ra ra ra)' lasted and I was sold. To be honest, I was already sold on The Vaccines before I stepped into the sold out Bowery Ballroom for their first show in the US. The Vaccines are a London based indie rock band that have been generating a massive buzz in their short time together. Their first cd doesn't even come out till later this spring in the US and yet they are selling out venues on this short tour and even graced Jools Hollands stage playing 3 songs. I came across them a few months ago learning of them on NME's bands to watch for 2011. I found their performance of 'Blow it up' on Youtube and knew there was something special about these guys. Their music moves from the burner 'Wreckin Ball' to the dreamy 'Post Break-Up Sex', a dark 'Blow It Up' to the kick ass 'If You Wanna'. A lot of english bands come here with a lot of buzz that seems to diminish after their first cd. I can tell you their their first cd isn't even out yet and I can't wait to see what they come up with on their second one. They showed their depth tonight extending the set with a fantastic cover of a cover 'Good Guys (don't wear white)' in which Minor Threat covered the Sandells. To me, finding out about a band like the Vaccines are the reason why I love music so much. It's new, it's fresh and it's fucking awesome.

See for yourself. Enjoy:
